Description :
Lizard Symbolism in Native American Art:
Lizards are often associated with survival, adaptability, and healing in Native American cultures.
In Pueblo and Hopi traditions, lizards are seen as spiritual messengers and are sometimes linked to rain and water, much like frogs.
They can also symbolize protection and regeneration due to their ability to regrow lost tails. The blackware style, combined with incised geometric designs and raised lizard motifs, suggests it might be from Santa Clara Pueblo in New Mexico.
Santa Clara potters, especially the Tafoya and Naranjo families, are known for incorporating animal motifs into their carved pottery.
The polished and matte contrast is a signature technique of Pueblo pottery, enhancing the depth of the designs. Smaller pots dimensions are 7" wide and 5.5" tall.
Dimensions : 11 in W x 8 in H
